From one to another: The Gospel is medicine for a tired soul.
Are you so exhausted you forget who you are? Feel faded like an old, weather-beaten barn? Is striving getting too difficult?
A vacation is not the medicine you need. The rest of Jesus Christ being all your righteousness is what you need.

At that time Jesus declared, ‘I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.’

Every soul on earth is either under the curse of the law or the blessing of Christ. And being under the curse of the law, or living like you’re under the curse of the law when you’re not, is exhausting. To constantly be trying to measure up, or to ceaselessly strive after personal sovereignty over your own life, is debilitating. But to cast yourself on the God-man, to entrust your soul and your hopes and your future on shoulders that can bear them? That is the freedom we are called to.

For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, ‘Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them.’ Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for ‘The righteous shall live by faith.’ But the law is not of faith, rather ‘The one who does them shall live by them.’ Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us – for it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree’ – so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith.

Galatians 3:10-14

I am tired, for a cocktail of reasons of which one of the mixers is my own sin. And what I need right now is the respite of believing and tasting that Jesus Christ has done all that will ever need to be done to rescue me. And to restore me to my Father. And that He Himself is everything that could ever satisfy my parched heart.

I need to meditate on and delight in and believe the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Weary?
Come to Christ.
If He sets you free, you will be very free, indeed.
